To know Banjo, is to love him. From the second we met him, we knew he was a special guy.
He was completely at ease & just as happy whether we were hanging out with Mom & Dad while they got ready or hiking around the woods & exploring the ceremony site by the creek. He took his sniffs almost as seriously as he took his naps (this guy is a master at creating pillow caves) & would show off his sitting skills for anyone with a treat.
We love the thought that went into every detail of this wedding, a lot of which involved Banjo! The “Banjito Mojito” was a huge hit & the giant cut outs of Banjo’s face were a ton of fun.
He was the ring bearer during the ceremony & accompanied the groom down the aisle. He sat quietly for the first part of the ceremony & then joined his parent’s as they shared their vows & first kiss as husband & wife. So precious!
It was obvious how much joy Banjo brings to those around him. We were so happy to be a part of the celebration & grateful to get to know their sweet boy, Banjo!
We asked the Bride a few questions about including Banjo in the wedding day:
Why did you include your dogs in your wedding?
Banjo is a huge part of our lives. We consider him part of the family ( like a kid!) and take him everywhere we can.
We only looked at and chose our venue specifically because of Banjo being allowed there.
What is the story of how your dogs became a part of the family?
One of Bills best memories as a kid was his beagle Molly who passed shortly before we met.
We are both dog lovers and had wanted to rescue a dog for a few years however our landlords at the time had a clause in our lease not allowing dogs. It came to the point where we did not want to wait anymore. I called up the landlords and told them either we are allowed a dog or we are moving. They conceded and I found Banjo through a rescue in NJ who brought him up from Virginia.
This whole thing was kept a surprise from Bill and intended to be a surprise Christmas/Birthday gift. It was November and I couldn't wait til Christmas. I brought him home that day. Bill was sleeping and I opened the door, told him I had a surprise early present and let banjo jump on the bed.
Bill was ecstatic but apprehensive knowing what our lease said! He started crying and asking how we were going to keep him and that’s when I told him about my phone call to the landlords.
It was one of the best days of our lives and we will be forever grateful to have him.
Did you incorporate your dogs into any other details on your wedding day?
Yes! We handed out doggie bags with treats for guests to take home to their pups.
We named a drink after him ( the Banjito Mojito).
We had blown up images of his head as props in our photo booth.
We had him as our ring bearer.
He was introduced with us and walked around throughout the entire day greeting all our guests was in a large part of our wedding photos.
All dogs are the best dogs, but tell us something that makes your dogs special?
Banjo really is the best! We are so lucky to have him in our lives.
He is the quietest beagle you will ever meet. He loves food like other beagles but is very respectful and only begs by staring at you from across the room. Ha! He shows love by leaning up against you and will always accept belly rubs!
When we first got him he was scared of everything but he learned how to love and is only scared of big dogs. He even learned how to kiss which he never did before. He loves to snuggle anytime but at nighttime he knows when its time for bed and go into his own bed when the lights go out and the tv turns off.
He never destroys anything ( as long as he can see out the window to watch for us to come home). He is incredibly calm- so much so, that people often forget he is there. He likes to find the most comfortable spot in the room wherever we go and if we are outside he always has to do a "perimeter sniff" before relaxing.
He always wants to be close to us and if we are in separate rooms he will go back and forth between rooms until we are together . When we have friends over or go to my parents house he tries to sit in one of the chairs around the table and if the seats are all taken he will steal yours when you get up!
We laugh because when he gets in the chair he sits and looks at everyone as if he was part of the conversation. Sometimes he rests his head on the table when he's been sitting there for awhile which is so funny.
I could go on and on because the joy of having banjo in our lives is endless. He makes us incredibly happy!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about your dog?
Everyone who meets banjo either tells us a story of a beagle they knew or used to have or makes a comment about wanting to take him home because he's just so sweet!
